Initiatives

1. To increase opportunities for healthy eating:

  • Work with Board of Ed to adopt a new school wellness policy that meets current performance standards.
  • Collaborate with child-serving organizations to create a childhood wellness policy.
  • Work with city officials to create a “Right to Farm” city ordinance that allows neighborhood community gardens.

2. To increase opportunities for physical activity as a part of everyday life:

  • Work with Board of Ed to adopt a new school wellness policy that meets current performance standards.
  • Work with city officials to adopt a “Complete Streets” ordinance.
  • Establish safe walking/biking routes.

3. To increase healthy eating/ nutrition education:

  • Work with Board of Ed to adopt a new school wellness policy that meets current performance standards.
  • Businesses adopt new healthy eating and physical activity policies.

4. To improve community collaboration and assessment capacity:

  • Create new collaborations- share expertise, resources and coordinate efforts.
  • Collaborate efforts/ funds to conduct community-wide assessments.

5. To improve community-wide communication to advance healthy eating and active living:

  • Create community conversation around living a healthy lifestyle.
